Michael Bell MBE

Conductor & Musical Director

Michael Bell was born in Neath and studied music at Cardiff University. After graduating, Michael formed Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra in 1982 and has conducted the orchestra for 36 years. His first concert with Hereford String Orchestra was in Autumn 2019.

Roland Melia

Conductor & Musical Director

Roland Melia began his wide-ranging career as a cellist playing with National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, English National Opera, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, City of London Sinfonia, and the contemporary ensemble Lontano.

Josh Ballance


Josh Ballance is currently studying for a DPhil at Christ Church, Oxford, generously supported by the Arts & Humanities Research Council. Prior to this he was at King’s College, Cambridge, where he read for his undergraduate degree and MPhil.
